I Can Teach Anyone to Teach Piano
If you’ve been following my blog for long, you should know that I help pianists turn into piano teachers. It doesn’t matter if you’re a teenager or a grandparent, I know that I can help you learn how to teach piano lessons to beginners. I can’t keep track of the dozens of student-teachers that I have mentored or the hundreds of piano students they collectively have taught over the years. Only once did this backfire on me, and to be honest, I can’t complain too much about suffering from success.
Chad Was Only 11 When He Started
My youngest son Chad began teaching piano lessons to students of his own as an 11 year old. Years went by, Chad graduated from High School early, and got accepted at a college 800 miles from home. We all cheered, until he told his students that he would be leaving a year early. All 28 of them felt like I should take them on as my own students since Chad couldn’t teach them anymore, but I didn’t have any open spots.
That predicament wasn’t something either of us anticipated, and it made for a difficult situation when we searched for other teachers to place them. Eventually it worked out, and this exact scenario hasn’t happened since, but it was a big learning moment for me.
I Bet You Have What It Takes
I wasn’t kidding when I said that he started teaching piano at 11 years old. If you are a capable pianist who can do these basic things, I think you can teach piano too.
Absolute requirements:
- Ability to read music well.
- Ability to play in front of an audience (yes, you have to be able to demonstrate songs to your students).
- Ability to keep a steady beat & rhythm of a song
- Be willing to devote time to a course that will teach you how to teach piano to beginners.
Optional/recommended requirements:
- Experience/comfortable working with children (even babysitting is good experience).
- Passion for piano
If you or someone you know has what it takes based on that list above, you have to check out my How to Teach Piano Course on my website. I want to help you take the joy of music to others and give you the experience of making money on your own terms as well.
