Fill Your Schedule
Having a difficult time filling up your teaching schedule?

Looking for ideas on how to add more students?
Here is how I helped 2 teachers expand their studios and find teaching more fun.
2 teachers I helped transition to small group classes only had 10 and 13 students respectively. While it was fabulous to take their weekly 5 and 6+ hours of teaching and reduce them to a fraction of the time, I could see why they weren’t attracting more students right off the bat.
It was their teaching methods
They loved their students and teaching piano but their curriculum consisted of just following method books. Each of them had different books they were using, but they hadn’t realized they could be supplementing and expanding those methods to fit the needs and interests of their students.
Neither one of them had used challenges (theory, practice, performance, etc) with students.
Once I showed them how they could do this, the lights went on. They were open about not knowing where to start so were eager to learn more.

Because I’m on the retirement side of teaching now, I’ve had decades of experience to pull from and lots of successes to share with them. We discussed ways they could set benchmarks for progress that made it more obvious to them, their students and the parents of their students.
Each of these teachers developed enthusiasm for new things while maintaining their individual preferences for new ideas, but both were willing to stretch themselves.
It worked wonderfully
Last I heard, the two of these teachers were still seeing growth in both productivity and progress of their students and really enjoying the challenge of more students than they ever had before. Yay! for simple changes and new mindsets.
It makes your recitals a lot more fun, it makes group challenges exciting to work on, and it totally makes your teaching an energizing time rather than a boring practice babysitting experience.
